Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be allowed to go back with my child?

Yes! We welcome parents to join their child during check-ups, cleanings, and initial exams. Having you there helps us build trust, ease anxiety, and keep communication open. For treatment appointments, we typically ask parents to wait in the reception area, as children often focus better without distractions. If your child is receiving care under general anesthesia with our sedation team, parents will be asked to remain in the waiting area during the procedure.

Does my child need to see a pediatric dentist?

Pediatric dentists complete an additional 2–3 years of specialized training after dental school, focusing specifically on the unique needs of infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special healthcare needs. This training includes advanced behavior management techniques and a deeper understanding of how to guide children through dental care in a way that is gentle, supportive, and effective.

Can you fix my child’s cavity at the first appointment?

In most cases, we like to keep the first visit light and positive — focusing on helping your child feel comfortable in the office. Typically, the first appointment includes a cleaning, exam, x-rays if needed, and a discussion with Dr. Coco about any recommended treatment. If dental work is needed, we’ll schedule a follow-up visit so that everyone — the parent, child, and our team — can be fully prepared for the best experience possible. In urgent cases, like trauma or pain, we may offer same-day treatment.

When should my child first see a pediatric dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry now recommends scheduling your child’s first dental visit by their first birthday. Early visits help catch small issues before they become bigger problems, and they’re a great opportunity to talk about diet, hygiene, and how to care for your child’s teeth as they grow.
